Just returned from an inspiring and energizing trip to Taipei (April 2025)—a city where tradition and innovation meet in breathtaking ways.

While there, I had the incredible opportunity to see Cloud Gate Dance Theatre’s Sounding Light and meet their Executive Director, Kathy Hong. It was a joy to connect with such a legendary institution in contemporary dance.

A highlight of the trip was meeting Damon Wang and Hung-Chung Lại of Hung Dance, and being invited to attend a rehearsal of their work in progress—a bold fusion of contemporary dance and Classical Chinese opera. Watching it take shape in the studio was a rare and beautiful treat.

I also had the pleasure of meeting Chou Tung-Yen, an innovative theatre director pushing boundaries with technology. His VR theatre work In the Mist was emotionally raw, visually stunning, and tackled themes that are too often left unexplored. A transformative experience.

I came back deeply moved by the creativity, courage, and spirit of collaboration I encountered. Taipei’s arts scene is alive with vision—and I’m feeling inspired for what’s next.
